Manually uploading rscmail.exe

Do you have an FTP program?

We recommend using WS_FTP LE to manually upload rscmail.exe but any ftp client will work. You simply need to transfer the file called: rscmail.exe from the RealCart cgi-bin folder on your PC to the cgi folder on your web server. Typically the RealCart cgi-bin folder will be located here:

C:\Program Files\RealCart.com \RealCart \cgi-bin\

If you installed RealCart to a different drive or folder you will need to located the "RealCart" folder and open it to find the cgi folder. The goal here is to make rscmail accessible from http://www.YourDomain.com/cgi-bin/rscmail.exe.

Here are the step by step instructions for uploading rscmail.exe:
  • Download and install WS_FTP LE
  • Locate and run WS_FTP LE (It will likely be available on the Windows Start Menu under the Programs/WS_FTP LE branch)
  • If the “Session Properties” dialog does not appear, click the “Connect” button.
  • Enter some name for the “Profile Name” so you will know which connection this is. (It does not matter what you put in here.)
  • Enter your ftp server for the “HostName/ Address” (If you are connecting to an IP address, enter that address here.)
  • Leave the Host Type set to “Automatic Detect.”
  • Enter your ftp username (usually the same as your email username but not always) in the “User ID” field.
  • Enter your ftp password (usually the same as your email password but not always) in the “Password” field.
  • Check the Save PWD checkbox (optional)
  • The Account and Comment fields can be left blank.
  • Click “OK.”

Uploading the script via binary transfer mode

Now that you have connected to your web server via the FTP protocol you can locate your cgi-bin folder by double-clicking on folders on the right side of the program. If you need to go up in the directory structure to find your cgi-bin folder just double-click one of the double dots (..)

Once you locate your cgi-bin folder on your web server (remote site) then you can locate it on the Local System (left) side of the screen by navigating to your RealCart cgi-bin folder. Using the same method of double clicking folders and double-clicking the dots (..) you can locate the rscmail.exe file.

Here is what to do next.
  • Click the radio button next to the word Binary in the lower center part of the WS_FTP LE program window.
  • Select rscmail.exe with your mouse on the Local System (left) side of the screen.
  • Make sure the remote site (right) side of the screen is displaying the contents of your cgi-bin folder. If you see a folder icon labeled cgi-bin then you need to double-click it so we can see it’s contents.
  • Now that you have the cgi-bin folder open on the remote site (right) side of the WS_FTP LE window you can click the [ -> ] button (bottom button between the two windows in the center of the WS_FTP LE program window.)
  • IMPORTANT: If you do not transfer the rscmail file using Binary mode it will not run. You will get a server error.

Now you need to set the permissions

Most NT server permissions cannot be modified by the end user (you) and must be changed by your web hosting ISP. Instruct them that you have just installed a form to email program and the permissions necessary to make it work are Execute for everyone. If your web hosting ISP doesn’t seem to know how to do this or if you are running your own server you can refer to this PDF file that explains setting file permissions on a Windows server. Once the appropriate permissions have been set for rscmail.exe you can begin taking orders.
