Configuring your checkout
Deciding which type of checkout
RealCart allows you to configure your checkout in a number of different ways. In fact we are adding to the number of ways to configure checkout all the time by allowing our customers to request payment gateway additions as well as embracing new technology offered by existing payment gateways. To see the complete list of payment gateways we support (also called “Secure Order Providers”) click here.

The choices RealCart offers include everything from our FREE form mailers to Secure Order providers like Authorize.Net, WorldPay, PayPal as well as other secure order providers.

E-commerce Beginners

If you are just getting into e-commerce and have not yet obtained a merchant account you may want to consider getting a PayPal account. PayPal allows you get started accepting credit cards without any up-front cost. If you choose PayPal (No Confirmation) as your checkout method just select this option from the Secure Order Providers drop down list as described in Section 5.1.2.3.

Alternatively you can choose PayPal for NT or PayPal for UNIX options if your web hosting plan allows for cgi scripts or executables. (Check with your web hosting ISP to find out for sure.) If you are not sure whether your web site is being hosted on an NT server or a UNIX server you can try the simple test described in Section 2.5.

If you already have a merchant account

Many merchants are already accepting credit cards with a VeriFone (or other type of) terminal at their place of business. Having an existing merchant account, however, is no guarantee that you are able to accept credit cards on-line. In fact, most businesses that already have a merchant account will need to open a merchant account that is capable of on-line transactions before they will be able to accept credit cards on their web sites.

If you would like to convert your existing off-line merchant account to one that can transact both off-line and on-line consider opening an Authorize.Net account through RealCart by applying on-line on our merchant account site. If you already have an on-line merchant account, chances are good that your payment gateway is already supported by RealCart.

To check and see if your payment gateway is already supported just check our official list.

As a last resort

If you do not have a merchant account or a PayPal account you could utilize our FREE form mailers to conduct unsecure transactions. Typically customers will be wary of entering their credit card information on a non-secure page but if you absolutely must transact sales this way whether permanently or temporarily just keep in mind that the customer’s credit card information is not secure using our FREE form mailers.

We offer limited support for these free form mailers as it is beyond the scope of our tech support to teach you how to troubleshoot scripting issues and cgi problems with your web hosting server. Typically this is the job of your web host if in fact they offer the capability of hosting such 3rd party script and exe files. Our ISP support center is designed to allow you to quickly and easily send a form letter to ask your ISP about your web hosting package capabilities. If you are not sure whether your web site is being hosted on an NT server or a UNIX server you can try the simple test described in Section 2.5.
