Downloadables and shipping
If you allow your customers to download some products as well as order these same products (or other products) on removable media like CD-ROM then it is possible to accurately charge no shipping for downloads while charging the normal amount for removable media (tangible) products. Here is an example of how you might set up this type of shipping:
- Start RealCart.
- Define your downloadable products with a weight of 0.00 in the product wizard.
- Open the Checkout Wizard by clicking the Cash Register button on RealCart’s large toolbar.
- Click the Shipping tab.
- Click the Add button.
- Select Weight as the shipping type.
- click OK.
- In the Shipping Charges dialog enter the label for the shipping carrier. (What the web shopper will see.) Typical shipping labels might include:
- DHL
- UPS
- FedEx
- USPS
- Priority Mail
More on shipping labels can be found in the Section 3.3.1.
- Enter 0 for the Flat Rate field.
- Define your first shipping charge as weight from 0 to 1 = $0.00 shipping.
- Define all weights over 1 as you normally would.
- Republish your store.
Your customer will see:
In the above example...
- All orders that are for downloadable items only will be charged $0.00 for shipping.
- All orders that are for tangible items (even orders including downloads and tangibles) will be charged the appropriate amount for shipping.
