Using BformMail.pl instead of FormMail.pl
Many of our users have asked us if RealCart can simply write a text file to the server instead of sending out an email when an order is placed. The answer to this question is “yes” as long as you provide your own script or use a third party script. RealCart.com recommends using BFormMail from www.InfoSheet.com.
BFormMail 2.0 is based on FormMail 1.9 by Matt Wright. FormMail is the FREE perl script included with RealCart as a means for merchants to begin taking orders while they are awaiting approval for a merchant account. If you are going to use FormMail permanently we suggest upgrading to BFormMail and running RealCart on an SSL secure server.
You can download InfoSheet.com’s BFormMail 2.0 here. We do not provide technical support for this script other than the steps outlined below. For technical support on BFormMail contact the authors as described below.
Configuring RealCart to use BFormMail.pl
The easiest way to use BFormMail with RealCart is to simply choose UNIX as the Server Type in the Checkout Wizard. After you have successfully installed BFormMail on your server simply modify your FormURL in RealCart’s Checkout Wizard to reflect the new filename. Example:
If your current Form URL is defined as:
http://www.mysite.com/cgi-bin/formmail.pl
Then you would simply want to change it to:
http://www.mysite.com/cgi-bin/bformmail.pl
Be sure of course to use the same capitalization for the Form URL as the file is named on the server. In other words, if the name of BFormMail on the server is “BFormMail.pl” then make sure you define the filename with a capital “BF” and small “orm” big “M” and small “ail.pl” exactly the way it is on the server.
Turn off Carbon Copy feature
The pay-unix.html checkout form is set to send the customer a Carbon Copy of the email by default. Simply edit this file in a text editor to locate the following line:
<input type=hidden name=carbonCopy value="Y">
change it to read:
<input type=hidden name=carbonCopy value="N">
This template can be found in your common template folder normally installed to:
C:\Program Files\RealCart.com\RealCart\Templates\Common
You will want to save this file and rebuild your checkout page by simply starting RealCart and clicking your “cash register button” then clicking “OK” to rebuild the page. Republish the resulting “pay.html” after you have done this. Clear your browser cache prior to testing the form and you should now be able to place a test order without the customer getting a copy of the order.

Hosting
If you are having trouble installing the script on your own server, or your ISP will not allow your own CGI-BIN scripts, InfoSheet will host the script on their server. Everything will work the same way, however you simply have the FormURL in the checkout wizard pointed to their server.
Although the BFormMail.pl script is FREE, fees for hosting the script on InfoSheet’s servers is $5 per month with the first month free. There is a one-time $75.00 setup fee.
What you get:
- Access to the running script (referers)
- If you subscript to FaxSav, they will add your code (stamp) so you can have the form results faxed to you.
- Your own database file if you wish to take advantage of the db features of the script.
If you are interested in having Infosheet host your script, please complete their Script Host Order Form. and then their PayPal payment form. Please specify ScriptHost setup and enter $100 on the form. This pays for installation on their servers and your first six months of script hosting.
Installation
While InfoSheet provides minimal support for script installation they do not provide direct installation support on your server (see hosting above).
