Getting Started
Downloading RealCart - 5 to 30 minutes
If you have the RealCart CD-ROM disk, click here for assistance on loading the CD into your PC.
To download RealCart™ you will need a Windows based PC as well as a connection to the internet. Launch your browser and go to our download site at http://download.RealCart.com/. On our download page you will see several icons. The main program is at the top of the page, the plug-ins are at the bottom of the page. Also, to get the newest version make sure you download from one of the RealCart download sites that says  next to the download icons.
When you click one of the download icons a dialog box will open asking you if you want to run this file or save it to disk. Click on the “Save to disk” option.
You will be prompted to choose a location to save the file to. Choose a folder in the “Save in:” or “Location:” pull down menu or click your desktop icon. Remember where you save the file because you will need to run it after the download is complete. Click the save button to begin the download. When the download is complete you can click the Open button to begin the installation.
Close any other programs you have running.
While RealCart is downloading you may want to shut down any programs that are running in preparation for installing RealCart. Ideally you should only have Explorer and Systray running although virus detection software is probably OK to have on.
An easy way to restart Windows and bypass your “Start Up” items is to boot Windows while holding down the shift key on your keyboard.
- Cold boot your computer. (Shut it down. Turn the power off and then turn it back on.)
- When Windows asks you for your login enter your username and password (if any) and as soon as you click OK press and hold the shift key on your keyboard until Windows appears to have loaded completely. (Hourglass should stop and display your system’s default cursor)
- Check to see what might have loaded in your System Tray. (The System Tray is the area in the lower right corner of your computer screen next to the clock.)
To check and see what else is running you can do two things. First look in your system tray and right click each icon in it and select either exit or close. Some icons (like the speakers) do not have either of these options. These are icons that cannot be exited so just leave them alone. When you are done your system tray should look something like this: (You may have more or fewer icons.)
The second thing you can do to see if anything else is running is to press the CTRL, ALT and DEL buttons on your keyboard simultaneously. The Close Program dialog box will appear with a list of all programs running on your PC. Typically you will only want Explorer and Systray running while you install RealCart. If you experience trouble installing or running RealCart you may want to shut down the other programs running before reinstalling RealCart.
Simply select the program(s) you want to shut down on this dialog and then click the End Task button. Sometimes a program will not want to shut down and you may need to click the End Task button again on a second dialog that may pop up on the upper left corner of your computer screen. Simply click the End Task button once more and the program will stop. Repeat this process for the remaining programs that are running except for Explorer and Systray.
Installing RealCart on your PC
Once your download is complete you need to locate the realcartv2.exe file and double-click it. The installation program will begin to extract the files needed for setup and then prompt you for any program options you want to modify. Here’s what to do when the installation routine starts up:
- When it says: “Starting RealCart Setup, please wait” just wait until the next screen comes up.
- First Click on the white dialog box that says: “Mindvision Software” to begin the install.
- Click “Next >” on the “RealCart logo screen”
- Shut down any other programs you have running before clicking “Next >” on the “Welcome screen” If necessary, you may want to cancel the install until you are sure no other programs are running.
- Click “Next >” on the “Important Notes”
- Click “Yes” to indicate your acceptance of the “Software License Agreement” (Clicking No will abort the installation.)
- If the default folder C:\Program Files\RealCart.com is OK, click “Next >” on the “Choose Destination Location screen” If it is not, please enter the installation folder you prefer here, then click Next.
- Choose Setup Type
- If the typical setup is OK, just click “Next >” on the “Setup Type screen”
- If not, choose Compact or Custom, then click “Next >” on the “Setup Type screen”
NOTE: PayPal plug-in installation requires Custom Installation method. See instructions below.
- If RealCart 2.0 is OK for the Program Folder name, click “Next >” on the “Select Program Folder screen”
- If everything is OK click “Next >” on the “Ready to Install screen”
- For the next several minutes you can just relax as the program files are copied to your hard drive. If you had a previous version of the shopping cart installed your existing stores will also be copied over to the new RealCart installation folder at this time. (It may be time to grab another cup of coffee.)
- Click “Finish” on the “Finished screen” to run the shopping cart upon completion of the installation routine. If you do not wish to run the cart at this time, simply uncheck the checkbox next to “Run RealCart 2.0 now!” option.
To run the shopping cart in the future just double-click the icon on the desktop or choose RealCart 2.0 from the RealCart 2.0 menu by clicking “Start / Programs / RealCart 2.0 / RealCart 2.0”
Installing the PayPal Plug-in
If you want to use PayPal IN ADDITION TO a secure payment gateway like Authorize.Net, VeriSign, LinkPoint or other payment service you may want to choose the Custom install option instead of Typical. Then click Next. The PayPal plug-in option is already checked by default in the Custom installation option so just click Next again and continue with your installation. The custom option also includes additional templates.
