Getting Started
Registering your store with a RealCart key file - 1 minute
Note: Before you attempt to register your store you must define your store with the Store Wizard.
To register your store open the email we sent to you that begins with the phrase: Thank you for your order. Enclosed is your registered KEY file for www.whatever.com. The file attached should be called “key.rssc” or “secure.key.rssc” if it is a secure server key. Make sure the key file is named either key.rssc or secure.key.rssc or it will not work. After locating the key file attachment, save it to your desktop and then follow these remaining steps:
  • If RealCart is running, exit RealCart by selecting Exit from the File menu.
  • Double-click the key file on your desktop.
  • At this point RealCart will open and try to match the Site URL of your current store with the Site URL encoded into the key file.
  • If the Site URL of your current store matches the Site URL encoded into the key file then a prompt will come up thanking you for your order.
  • Click “OK
  • Publish your store to enable your on-line store to run in registered mode. This will remove the three item limit and your customers will be able to buy all of the items they want.
If the shopping cart does not tell you that you store is now registered then you may want to double-check the Site URL in the subject line of the key file email. You must have your domain entered in all lower case and it must contain “www” if the URL in the subject line of our message contains “www”. If you cannot get your key file to match you may want to read the following FAQ pages:

How do I Install the key file? Why doesn't my store match?

Is it possible that my key file is corrupt? How do I fix a corrupt key file?

Manually Applying your key file

One thing you might try is manually applying your key file. When you double-click the key file it should simply copy itself into your codebase folder and then prompt you that your store is now registered. If it does not, and you are sure that the key file is not corrupt then you can manually apply the key file by simply copying it to:

C:\Program Files\RealCart.com\RealCart\Stores\My Store\cart\js208

The above folder assumes a default installation. If you installed the shopping cart to a location other than C:\Program Files\RealCart.com then you would want to navigate to the correct folder to locate your “cart/js207” folder. (newer versions will be js208, 209, 210, etc) Copy your key file into this folder and restart RealCart. If your store isn’ called “My Store” then open the store folder that contains your store. Open the cart folder. Open the jsXXX folder and save the key file to it.

Manually Applying your key file to your on-line store

If the cart on your web site says “Demo” you need to either try publishing your store after following the steps above or you can simply manually upload your key file to the folder:

http://www.yourdomain.com/cart/js2xx/
(where the "xx" is replaced with the actual version #)

Key files MUST be lowercase and must be spelled correctly.
  • Regular key filenames will always be: key.rssc.
  • Secure keys will always be secure.key.rssc.
If you upload the key file named KEY.RSSC or Key.rssc or key.RSSC it will NOT work. Spelling and UPPER/lower case is critical.

If you have uploaded the file to the proper location, with the proper filename, it will no longer indicate the demo mode. Keep in mind that the key file MUST match the domain name where the cart is being loaded. If you are using “Domain Forwarding” you will need to purchase a key for the new domain that your domain name is being forwarded to. If you are forwarding to a raw IP address instead of a domain name you will not be able to use RealCart until you return to a more conventional type of “domain virtual hosting” with any reputable web hosting ISP.

Your store should now be registered. If it is not and you continue to have problems just Ask RealCart.
