Getting Started
Installing RealCart - 10 minutes
Before you can use RealCart™ to sell things on your web site you will need to install and configure the software. Since RealCart™ is available from many different sources world wide you may or may not have a CD-ROM version of the software. We will cover how to install the program from CD-ROM disk a few pages from now. For now we will explain how to download the software from our web site on the following page. If you have any trouble during installation please take a look at our Error Message FAQ page.

Trial Period

During your 30 day trial period the shopping cart will operate in “Demo Mode”. The trial period allows you to check out our cart to make sure it will work for you. The trial period is designed to give you enough time to properly evaluate our shopping cart. If you choose to use our shopping cart past the 30 day trial period you must purchase a key file from our on-line store.

RealCart Licenses

The software itself can be loaded on as many computers as you like. If you have a computer at your office, one at home and a notebook you are allowed to install the shopping cart on all of them. Our software license is for your site address, not for your computer. In other words, when you buy a Single license you are buying the right to use our software for ONE company, ONE store at a particular web address. There is no limit to how many people may use the software as long as you are using your single license to run ONE store at ONE web site address for ONE company.

The following situations would be a violation of our software license:
  • Using a single license key file to operate an on-line shopping mall housing the stores of more than one merchant. (This would require a server license as explained below.)
  • Using a single license key file to operate multiple stores all owned by the same company running on the same server yet selling different product lines. Setting up two stores to sell the SAME products with different pricing is not a violation of our single licensing agreement.

Six Pack License

A six pack is just a bundle of six single licenses all at the same time. The rules above apply to each of the six single licenses. Six Packs are primarily sold to web site developers as well as web site hosting companies but anyone that anticipates setting up more than three stores should consider the six pack. The average cost per license is well below our normal retail price for single licenses. RealCart allows you to purchase six packs from us and then resell the individual licenses to your web design and web hosting clients. You are welcome to resell our licenses for any price that you want whether it be lower than our retail price, the same or higher.

Server License

A server license allows you to set up as many stores as you want as long as they load from the same URL and are hosted on the same physical machine. . For example:

Let’s say your domain name is carthost.nu and you do web hosting for your customers. On the physical machine that this domain goes to you can have as many users as your hard drive will hold. All of the users’ stores will have the address:

http://carthost.nu/~brownsbooks
http://carthost.nu/~jonesjeans
http://carthost.nu/~a1systems
http://carthost.nu/~hotairballons
etc. etc.

Server licenses are terrific for web design/web hosting customers that are just getting their feet wet in e-commerce. You will find that as your customer gets more sophisticated he or she may decide that they want to have their own web site, their own domain and a shopping cart housed at their own domain. For the most part, however, many users are perfectly happy with their on-line store being at your domain.

The key file will only work at your domain. You distribute the RealCart™ program and your key file to each customer that signs up for your service. The key file won’t work anywhere else so you’re perfectly safe letting them have a copy of your key. Besides, our program will not run longer than 30 days on their computer without your key file present on their system.

Most of our server license customers will build the initial store for the customer including setting up the store, configuring the checkout and publishing functions and maybe even adding products. After the store is set up they give the store files and the RealCart™ program to their web design customers and charge a significant fee for setting up their store. Sometimes as much as $500.00 or more depending on the number of products, amount of customization and other variables.

Transferring a License

If you should ever need a license for a web address other than the one you purchased a key file for then you would need to purchase another key file. There are no exceptions to this rule so when you do purchase your key file make sure that you purchase a key for the web site URL where you plan to use the shopping cart. RealCart will not run in registered mode on any server other than the one that hosts the domain that you purchased your key for.

You may transfer the key file to a new owner but not to another domain. For example: If you own the domain TopSellers.com and you own a RealCart key file for this domain and you sell the domain and web site to someone else then you are within your rights to transfer the key file to the new owner of the domain. Since you no longer own the domain, you no longer need the key file. The new owner of the domain may take over ownership of the key file and is entitled to any remaining technical support.
