Working with templates and themes - 10 minutes or less
Templates
If you have ever used a Word Processor to create form letters then you already have a good working knowledge of how RealCart utilizes templates. A RealCart template works nearly identically to a form letter master document in Microsoft Word. A master document in Word has several database fields. Typical fields would be Name, Address, City, State and ZIP. In RealCart the fields are Stock Number, Product Name, Description, Price, Weight, etc....
When you do a mail merge in Word it is the equivalent of Rebuilding all your pages in RealCart. Rebuilding pages is just another way of saying re-merge my product info with my store. When you rebuild your pages in RealCart you are combining your store’s data with the RealCart master document templates. There is a template for product pages, department pages and your catalog, checkout and help pages. There are other supporting pages but these are the main templates that comprise your RealCart on-line store.
Themes
Themes are just collections of templates. The Real Soft Classic theme is a replica of how the first versions of the Real Soft Shopping Cart looked (RealCart’s predecessor.) Sophisticate is a theme that incorporates pull-down navigation menus so your customer can jump right to a particular product. Sophisticate also utilizes department images as described in Section 4.11.4. Other themes that currently utilize the department images are HumanCart Female 1, 2 and 3. Try out these themes with a HumanClick account enabled.
Switching Themes
Switching themes is as easy as selecting a new Theme in the Theme pull-down menu in the RealCart program. The Theme pull-down menu is located in the upper right portion of the RealCart program window.
By selecting a new theme here you can change the entire look of your store with a single mouse-click. You can create your own themes by copying and modifying an existing theme. This is explained in detail in Chapter 7.
