How it all began
The shopping cart has been around since 1937. The “off-line” shopping cart that is. It was invented right here in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (home of RealCart.com) by Sylvan N. Goldman. The Shopping Cart’s original purpose was to make it easier to buy more than would fit in a hand held basket at your local grocery store.
After a few revisions to the original shopping cart Mr. Goldman had a winner. He also had a 7 year waiting list full of merchants that wanted an easier way to allow their customers to shop and buy more in their grocery stores. By the late 1940s there were millions of shopping carts in use world wide.
You may be thinking -- What does this have to do with e-commerce shopping carts? Actually our e-commerce shopping cart has a great deal to do with it’s off-line counterpart. RealCart™ was designed to be the equivalent of an off-line shopping cart for the sake of web shoppers that lack the necessary computer skills to buy things on the web today. “Hidden” shopping carts on web sites account for an alarming amount of abandoned orders. An order becomes “abandoned” when the web shopper gives up in futility. When your shopper gets frustrated enough to give up trying to figure out how to complete a transaction on your web site you lose a sale. It’s as simple as that. RealCart™ was designed to virtually eliminate abandoned orders due to it’s straight-forward layout and simple user interface. The shopper is presented with a cart that stays visible the entire time the shopper is in your store. The cart only has two buttons, “Remove Item” and “Check Out.” Instead of the usual array of confusing buttons like “View Cart”, “Modify Cart”, “Recalculate Cart”, etc. the user only has to click “Check Out” to pay for his order.
The fewer clicks the customer must make, the easier it is to buy something from your web site. RealCart™ makes it simple to buy from your store. Simplicity = more sales.
