Defining color and size choices
If your products come in different colors, sizes, fragrances, materials, levels, versions, translations, or types then RealCart is for you! Powerful choice combinations enable you to showcase many different products or types of products into one single product page. For now we are going to look at defining a color choice although these directions apply to defining any type of multiple choice type product options. We will cover adding a size choice below.
Defining a Color Choice
Before you define any product options make a list of all the options that you will be using in your store. If the order in which these options appear in your product page is important to you then you should define the options in the order you want them to appear in your product pages. In other words. If you want size to appear before color in your product pages then you need to define size first. Then define your color choices.
Here is how to define a color choice step by step.
- Start RealCart
- Open the product options dialog by clicking Tools / Product Options in the menu or by selecting the Options tab from within the Product Wizard and clicking the Product Options button. (NOTE: Older versions of RealCart will have a Choices tab instead of an Options tab.)
- Click New.
- Enter a name for the option so you will know what it is later as well as a ONE or TWO word label for the option
- Click OK.
- Now enter some choices in the name field and press enter on your keyboard as you enter each choice. This is how your Options Manager will look as you define your T-shirt colors:
- When you are done just click OK.
- You will be asked if you want to save your changes.
- Click Yes.
Defining a Size Choice
Here is how to define a size choice step by step.
- Start RealCart
- Open the product options dialog by clicking Tools / Product Options in the menu or by selecting the Options tab from within the Product Wizard and clicking the Product Options button. (NOTE: Older versions of RealCart will have a Choices tab instead of an Options tab.)
- Enter a name for the option so you will know what it is later as well as a ONE or TWO word label for the option
- Click OK.
- Now enter some choices in the name field and press enter on your keyboard as you enter each choice. This is how your Options Manager will look as you define your T-shirt sizes:
- Enter any price adjustments necessary when you enter the choice itself.
- When you are done just click OK.
- You will be asked if you want to save your changes.
- Click Yes.
Price Adjustments
Price adjustments allow you to alter the product price based on what options your customer selects. For example; If you are charging an extra $2.00 for X-Large T-shirts. you would enter 2.00 in the Price (+/-) field next to the name of the size you are entering.
Negative Price Adjustments
Negative price adjustments are possible but they are a little quirky to enter. Let’s say, for example, that you are defining the components of a computer system and you want to adjust the total system price by -29.00 if the customer chooses not to have a CD-ROM in their machine.
When you originally tried typing in “-29.00” but in the “Edit Choice Item” dialog it came out as: “.29” and no matter what you do it doesn’t work. You end up with the results shown here:
Here is how to make it work.
You will need to either open the product wizard and click the options tab or select Product options from the Tools menu in RealCart™ to get into the options manager.
First, type in the price adjustment of “29.00” (without the minus “-” sign) Your screen will look like this:
Then, press the [Home] key on your keyboard or just press the left arrow key [<-]
When the cursor is just to the left of the price like this: |29.00 THEN press the minus sign “-” and it will stay put. Your screen will now look like this:
You may now press the OK button and continue to define more options or click the OK button, save your changes and click the OK button one more time to close the product wizard (if open) and continue to configure your store.
