How to properly prepare images
Images used in RealCart should be JPG or GIF images. You can use animated GIF files for both thumbnail images and zoom images. If you use JPG images be sure to use baseline JPG files instead of progressive jpgs. Progressive JPG images will not show a preview in our image dialog and may cause the shopping cart program to crash if you attempt to use one of these images. You will know that if you cannot preview an image with our image preview then you shouldnt use it.
The best images to use would be photos of the actual product. If no product photos are available you can take your own or use images of the manufacturers logos. If no image or logo is available you can also simply not define an image for a particular product or service.
For best results RealCart recommends that you use a graphic editor like one of the following:
Preparing images
No matter which image editor you use be sure to resample images in RGB mode whenever possible. Re-sizing graphics in a lessor quality may compromise the image quality. You may also want to create thumbnail and zoom images that are all the same width before proceeding to add product images to your on-line store.
Preparing Thumbnail Images
Thumbnail images should be no wider than 200 pixels. If you prefer a nice, orderly product presentation it is imperative that you make all of your thumbnail images the same width. In doing so you will have text that aligns on the right side of the thumbnail images uniformly instead of some text being much farther away from the thumbnails than others. Make all your thumbnail images 200 pixels wide and pay no attention to the height. For best results resize your images proportionally. What this means is to let the program decide what the height of an image is whenever you modify the width to equal 200 pixels.
Preparing Zoom Images
Zoom images should be no wider than 400 pixels. If you prefer a nice, orderly product presentation it is recommended that you make all of your zoom images the same width. Make all your zoom images 400 pixels wide and as long as they are no higher than 400 pixels. For best results resize your images proportionally. What this means is to let the program decide what the height of an image is whenever you modify the width to equal 200 pixels. If a zoom image is higher than 400 pixels then you run the risk of the image not fitting on some shoppers monitors. Some internet users are still viewing the internet with a screen resolution of 640 x 480.
In all cases you will want to resize the thumbnails, zooms and department images to the actual size that they will be in your store. Typically it is not good to enlarge an image to create a zoom image. If you do not already have an image wider than 200 pixels then simply do not define a zoom image, just define a thumbnail.
Preparing Department Images
Department images should be no wider than 350 pixels. If you prefer a nice, orderly presentation it is recommended that you make all of your department images the same width. Make all your department images 350 pixels wide and as long as they are no higher than around 200 pixels.
Typically you will want them all much shorter than this. For best results resize your images proportionally. What this means is to let the program decide what the height of an image is whenever you modify the width to equal 200 pixels. If a department image is wider than 350 pixels then you run the risk of the image not fitting on some shoppers monitors as with the zoom images described above.
