Working with Products
What to avoid
There are several guidelines discussed in Section 4.11.1 that you need to follow. The other things that you should really avoid are important enough to repeat. Here is the complete list of things to look out for.
- Do NOT use progressive JPG images (images that do not preview in the dialogs)
- Do NOT use thumbnails that are more than 200 pixels wide
- Do NOT use thumbnails that are NOT the same width (height is not as important)
- Do NOT use zoom images that are more than 400 pixels wide
- Do NOT use zoom images that are more than 400 pixels in height
- Do not use a zoom image that is not larger than the thumbnail for a particular product.
- Do NOT use department images that are more than 350 pixels wide
Although there are a lot of things that you should avoid when working with images you are welcome to break some of these rules if your end result is workable in lower resolution browsers. For example, if you customized the product template and department template to display a horizontal zoom then you may be able to get away with using thumbnail images that are wider than 200 pixels.
We recommend that you only attempt this if you are an advanced user with the proper HTML skills. HTML skills are not necessary to use this program but are recommended before trying to customize the templates on a code level.
