Weight and product options
RealCart allows for additional weight values to be added for products that have optional accessories via the Product Options feature.
In a situation where you have several different sizes of one particular product like Pint, Quart and Gallon you will want to specify what your base weight is for Pint and then configure the Product Options to add an additional weight amount if the shopper buys a Quart or Gallon.
The product choice pull-down might resemble this one:
Assuming the weight of the Pint is 6 ounces then the customer would end up with an order that weighs a total of 12 ounces if she buys a quart (6 oz + 6 oz) or 24 ounces for a gallon (6 oz + 18 oz). If you have elected to go with weight-based shipping then you will want to accurately weigh your products and enter their weights accordingly.
In our cell phone example from Section 4.6.2 you would want to weight the car cord and enter a negative weight adjustment for the “No Car Charger” and leave the “Car Charger (Included)” weight adjustment alone (assuming your included the weight of the charger in the main product’s weight value.
If your cell phone package weighs 64 oz and your shopper elects to buy the package without the car charger then the cart would subtract the weight value for the charger from the total weight of the order as long as the weight value you entered in the product options for “No Car Charger” as a negative number.
