Publishing your store
Gathering the needed information
RealCart comes with a built-in Publishing Wizard to help you publish your store quickly and easily. RealCart utilizes an FTP connection to your web server as the means of publishing with its internal Publishing Wizard. To publish your RealCart store via FTP you will need to know the following information:
  • The FTP server (host name) that houses your FTP account.
  • Your FTP account username.
  • Your FTP account password.
  • The FTP Initial Directory where your main web page is stored on the FTP server. (the complete address)
Let’s look at these four items in more detail.

FTP Host Name

Typically this will be your web host’s address (e.g. www.yourwebhost.net, ftp.yourwebhost.net or sometimes even ftp.yourdomain.com)

Do NOT include “http://” or “ftp://” at the beginning of this field. Just use the host name itself:

ftp.whatever.com

You can use an IP address if you wish. To do this enter ONLY the number:

123.145.167.189

Never enter an IP address like this:

ftp.123.145.167.189

Either use a NAME or an IP number but do not try to combine IP numbers with letters. The above example IP address that starts with "ftp." is INCORRECT and will not work.

If you do not know what this address should be, contact your web hosting provider and ask them what your “FTP server” is that houses your FTP account. If you prefer you can use our convenient form letter.

FTP Username

The username you use to access your directory on your web hosts’ server. This is usually the same as your email username but not always. If you do not know what your FTP username is, contact your web hosting provider and ask them.

FTP Password

The password you use to access your directory on your web hosts’ server. This is usually the same as your email password but not always. If you do not know what your FTP password is, contact your web hosting provider and ask them.

FTP Initial Directory

The FTP Initial Directory is a setting in RealCart™ that tells the publishing wizard what folder to upload the “cart” folder to on your FTP server. Typically this will be the folder where the main (first) page of your web site is located. For more info on how to determine what this setting should be please look at Section 6.3.2.
