Publishing your store
Publishing with an FTP client
If you require better performance for publishing than our built-in publishing allows, or if you are a computer related professional or if you just like using a 3rd party FTP client you should probably consider using a mainstream FTP client in place of RealCart’s publishing wizard. One such program is WS_FTP LE although CuteFTP and other programs work equally well. The preparation of each FTP client is slightly different. For our example we will explain how to use WS_FTP LE to upload your store.
If you do not already have WS_FTP LE loaded on your system you can download it here. If you plan to use WS_FTP to publish your store you may. You will be required to pay a license fee to http://www.ipswitch.com.
After you install it, please follow these steps.
- Start the WS_FTP program.
- If the “Session Properties” dialog does not appear, click the “Connect” button.
- Enter some name for the “Profile Name” so you will know which connection this is. (It does not matter what you put in here.)
- Enter your FTP Server (FTP hostname) for the “HostName/ Address” (If you are connecting to an IP address, enter that address here.)
- Leave the Host Type set to “Automatic Detect.”
- Enter your FTP username (usually the same as your email username but not always) in the “User ID” field.
- Enter your FTP password (usually the same as your email password but not always) in the “Password” field.
- Check the Save PWD checkbox (optional)
- The Account and Comment fields can be left blank.
- Click “OK.”
At this point WS_FTP LE should connect to your ftp server. If it does not then you need to check to be sure that the following three things are correct:
- HostName/Address
- FTP User ID.
- FTP Password
Once you connect you can navigate to the folder where your shopping cart is by navigating to C:\Program Files\RealCart.com\RealCart\Stores\My Store. (This is the default location. If you installed to a different directory than Program Files you will need to locate the right folder before continuing.)
Upload the folder called “cart” to the root directory of your web site. (The directory where your main web page resides.) DO NOT UPLOAD rsscmeta.ldb, rsscmeta.mdb, the “My Store” folder or ANY of its contents. The database file: rsscmeta.mdb does NOT go on your server. It is only used locally on your hard drive. Upload ONLY the “cart” folder, its contents and sub folders and their contents.
When you are finished you can check to see if you successfully uploaded your store by going to http://www.YourDomain.com/cart/ (Substituting your actual domain name for YourDomain.com).
